Gum Treatments at Kingswood Dental in East Sussex...

Gum disease is also known as gingivitis and can give you inflamed gums and gums that bleed when you brush your teeth. It is usually caused by a build-up of plaque on your teeth and is quite common even if you brush and floss regularly.

To prevent the build up of plaque and tartar (hardened plaque), we recommend a regular scale and polish – a professional clean by our hygienist.

Periodontitis is a severe form of gum disease and can make teeth feel loose or even fall out. You may have heard of Vincent's gingivitis or trench mouth. This is another severe form of gum disease known in dentistry as acute necrotising ulcerative gingivitis (ANUG).

We usually treat severe gum disease by root planing (which cleans bacteria from the roots of your teeth) or minor surgery. We have invested in a special soft laser called a Biolase for these procedures.

Treatment of gum disease in this way costs from £200.
